Case Study
River Don Pumping Engine

The refurbishment of a masive pumping engine from Sheffield’s Don Valley.

Staff from our Whaley bridge team have been involved
in the refurbishment of the 12,000 horse power River Don engine.

The engine was originally built by the Davy Brothers of Sheffield in 1905, and
is now owned by the Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust.

Now located at Kelham Island Museum, the engine was damaged in floods. Following a decision to return the engine to full running condition, Dorothea Restorations was contracted to clean, restore and paint the engine in order
to return it to its former glory.
