In all, 60 cast iron windows will be repaired by specialised cast iron welding
after blast cleaning and priming. All existing openers will be freed and made operable, and every frame is being carefully recorded to ensure it returns to
its original location.
Another 60 windows were too badly deteriorated to be economically repaired
- these are to be remade in cast iron from new pattern equipment.
Dorothea brings its specialist knowledge and skill of working with cast iron to
this job, with great care needed to remove the fragile frames from the building. We are also able to work close with the Linford joinery team, who are working on another 120 timber windows, restoring as many as possible and producing replicas in hardwood where necessary.
