19th Century Lights Restored on Exhibition Road

Dorothea Restorations craftsmen are restoring Victorian cast iron
street lanterns that have, for the past 150 years, lit Exhibition Road
and provided ventilation to the 19th century subway below
.

Exhibition Road is home to The Royal Albert Hall, Imperial College,
The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum and The V&A. It was built following the Great Exhibition in 1851 as part of the Victorian passion for learning
.

Pattern equipment has been manufactured to cast a new lantern and any components on the existing lanterns which require replacement. Wherever possible, parts are repaired rather than replaced in order to preserve as much of the original structure as possible.
