New build and replica architectural metalwork consultants
Traditional craft, traditional materials and the very highest quality are the hallmarks of the new and replacement architectural metal structures and decorative features manufactured by Dorothea Restorations.
From gates and railings to bandstands and complex composite structures like glasshouses and domes, Dorothea Restorations is the first choice for demanding and high-quality architectural metalwork manufacture.
We work with a wide range of materials, including wrought iron (‘puddled iron’), traditional cast iron, steel, copper and copper alloys (brass and bronze), tin, zinc, lead and gilded/decorative finishes, as well as all associated carpentry, joinery and glazing.
And for all our new-build and replication work, we apply the same core principles as we do for our restoration and conservation work – using traditional techniques and materials wherever possible, ensuring the closest possible appearance to either surviving fabric or historical records, and working to the highest standards possible consistent with the required style of manufacture.

Restoration of 17th century strong box
It not very often you get the opportunity to restore an object with so much history and stories to tell. The strong box forms part of the C. Hoare & Co history and the transfer of gold and coins across oceans and dirt roads.
Bishop Montague's Tomb, Bath Abbey
Dorothea Restorations had the privilege of working with Peter Meehan ACR on the restoration of the historic railings around the Montague Tomb. The conservation of these railings form a part of the significance the Abbey has played in Bath's long heritage and the history of the Abbey.
