Alton Waterwheel

30th April 2021

During March and April, we completed manufacturing a new waterwheel shaft for Alton Mill at The Museum of East Anglian Life. At 15 feet long and 18 1/2 inch square this is one of the larger waterwheel shafts you see in use today and it certainly gets the respect it deserves from our team. The gudgeon was wedged in place and three metal bands were heated up and installed around the outside to secure the gudgeon in place. The extreme heat resulted in a great photo which can be seen in the background. The Mill will soon be up and running and ready for its first visitors.
