Engineering and industrial heritage specialists with a passion for historic machinery
Dorothea Restorations thrives on its love of innovative machines that helped power the success of the Industrial Revolution.
Industrial Archaeology
Our appetite for industrial heritage engineering has fuelled our projects for over 30 years and we have had the privilege to work on some of the most extraordinary examples of British industrial archaeology.
Carrying out engineering heritage work for both public and private sector organisations, museums and preservation trusts, Dorothea Restorations has a wealth of experience and passion for historic machinery.
Our engineering services and talents in restoration and industrial archaeology, have led us to work on industrial machinery of all shapes and sizes, both static and operating.
Previous historic engineering projects include:
- Beam engines and pumps
- Boilers
- Locomotives
- Road vehicles
- Agricultural and industrial machinery
As with all our work, our Conservation Policy underwrites all our industrial conservation and engineering restoration services, with the aim of preserving as many original properties as possible. Where replication is required, Dorothea Restorations provide bespoke solutions; with the client and the environment in mind at all times.
Windmills and watermills
Dorothea Restorations offer the UK’s most comprehensive millwright service, having worked on more than 150 windmill and watermill restoration projects over three decades.
An irreplaceable part of Britain’s national industrial heritage, mills hold a unique and valued place in our company’s work. As a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) Millwrights List, Dorothea Restorations abides by core principles in all windmill and watermill conservation projects.
Central to this philosophy is the appreciation for windmills and watermills as machines and built structures that should be preserved. If you are interested to know more about our mill repair philosophy click here.
