Case study: Australia House Replica Window

Inside the Australian High Commission building in London is a curving staircase, featuring on each level concave and arch-topped steel windows. The Dorothea team were set the task of replicating this uniquely challenging window design.

When one window corroded causing the glass to crack, Dorothea Restorations was asked to manufacture a new unit.

The Dorothea team overcame several challenges in creating a new mild steel window to match the 1920s original. Not only was the glass curved along its length and arched at the top, but sill also sloped down. The size of the main pane was a further challenge, being larger than the maximum available size of glass. To overcome this, the Dorothea team developed a new joining technique specifically for this project.
