Case study: St Alkmund's Church Heritage Cast Iron Window
Dorothea Restorations repaired and re-glazed a series of three surviving Coalbrookdale Company heritage cast iron windows, originally ordered for this Shrewsbury church in 1795.
Each eighteenth-century cast-iron window was carefully dismantled, with the original crown glass window panes preserved for reuse.
Widnow conservation works involved using a variety of specialist cast iron repair techniques, before being cleaned and painted.
The frames were re-fitted into the repaired masonry openings, and the original glass panes replaced. Missing glass panes were renewed using modern crown glass.
